The Chicago Giving Circle (CGC), comprised of 17 dedicated families committed to making a positive impact in our community, is thrilled to announce its 2024 grants to two outstanding Chicago-based nonprofits: The Bloc and Breakthrough Urban Ministries. Each organization will receive a total of $300,000 over the next three years, with $100,000 distributed annually from 2024 to 2026. These multi-year conditional grants are aimed at supporting youth development and crime prevention initiatives.
The Bloc, known for its innovative boxing and academic programs, provides a safe haven for Chicago's youth, helping them develop discipline, confidence, and resilience. With this grant, The Bloc will expand its reach and deepen its impact, offering more young people the opportunity to succeed both in and out of the ring.
Breakthrough Urban Ministries serves the East Garfield Park community with programs that address the complex challenges of poverty and crime. Through education, job training, and comprehensive support services, Breakthrough works to create lasting change and build a stronger, more resilient community. CGC’s grant will enable the organization to continue providing academic, mental health, and street outreach support to youth and young adults through the Breakthrough Beyond program.
"We are incredibly honored and excited to partner with The Bloc and Breakthrough Urban Ministries," said Julie Hoffmann, Executive Director of The Chicago Giving Circle. "Both organizations are doing transformative work in our community. We are thrilled to provide multi-year support to support their work with Chicago's youth."
"The Bloc is thrilled to partner with The Chicago Giving Circle and grateful for the opportunity to expand our work. Together, we will reach kids where they are to help propel them to actualize their incredible potential. This grant and support from CGC will catalyze our work and pave the way for exponential growth and impact." Jamyle Cannon, Executive Director
“Breakthrough is so grateful for the support and partnership of The Chicago Giving Circle. We believe that radical hospitality and relentless engagement create an atmosphere of hope in our community. Partnerships, like ours with The Chicago Giving Circle, bolster our efforts and create spaces where our community can thrive.” Yolanda Fields, Executive Director
